My Story

I grew up in Moab, Utah. It was an amazing place to grow up not only because of the constant beauty of the red rocks, but also because I literally had an unending natural playground in my backyard. Living in Moab naturally introduced me to a lot of things including off-roading. I would easily be seen riding around trails on the weekends.

I have always loved cars. Growing up, I had a poster of a 1968 Fastback hanging on my wall and have always told myself that one day I would get one (which I’m currently working on that!). When I was in high school, I purchased a1989 Ford F250. It was in poor shape when I first purchased it, so I fixed it up and made it work and look much better. I quickly learned that not only did I love fixing up this truck, but I was also really good at it.

In 2012 I transferred from Southern Utah University to Utah State University with a Dean’s scholarship to study mechanical engineering. I picked up the hobby of flipping motorcycles and made enough profit from that to fund the rest of my schooling. I was thirsty for more projects, so I started working on cars again. In 2013, I purchased a 1987 CJ7, fixed it up, and sold it for another decent prophet. In 2014, I restored a 1968 Chevrolet C20 Pickup and sold it for an even bigger profit.

I now work as a mechanical engineer for a major oil company. The work I do with my job and the work I’ve done on cars go hand-in-hand as I’m constantly working with mechanical systems. If you would like to see more of my professional projects, you can visit my LinkedIn page here.

My wife and I wanted to share our knowledge so we decided to make this website, Gear and Cylinder, to teach about all aspects of cars. I’ve been able to help and teach thousands of people and hope to continue this satisfying journey. I’m confident with my car knowledge and have enjoyed posting information on Gear and Cylinder to share what I know.

Here are a few projects that we’re currently working on that has helped and inspired Gear and Cylinder:

1966 Ford Bronco. We bought it in southern Mississippi and it was in rough shape. It’s already come a long way!
1968 Pontiac Firebird. Every piece was taken apart and was either replaced or refurbished.
2022 Ford Bronco. Can you tell we love Broncos? We bought this Big Bend and have been working hard on modifying it. Still a lot of modifications to go!
